If you knew me in high school, you would definitely laugh at the fact that I’m talking about this. I grew up in the Midwest where healthy eating and being fit is not the norm like it is here in DC. Fortunately I had a good teenager metabolism that allowed me to eat Auntie Anne’s pretzels (my first job) on the reg without suffering the consequences like I would today if I so much as look at one.

For as much as I love my 30s, this is definitely one drawback.

Anyway, today I wanted to share some workout things that have really helped me in the week and a half of solitude. I desperately miss my OrangeTheory classes and the routine of working on regularly, but I’m trying to make the most of it.

Without further adieu, allow me to begin.

Pure Barre/Barre 3 on Demand

I am doing the free trial of both and so far, so good. Pure Barre gives you a seven day free trial while Barre 3 is fifteen days. Pure Barre has all of the available workouts in one place, which is nice. Barre 3 gives you a little questionnaire when you sign up and it personalizes the workouts for what you’re trying to accomplish. Anyway, I’m a genuine fan of both of these and I’ve been doing a 30 minute workout every morning. Trust me when I say it’s a game-changer.

I only have to carry him when he gets cold :).

Midday Dog Walks

Under normal circumstances, when the boys go out midday, it’s just a brief pee break and we’re back inside within a few minutes. Lately, I’ve been taking them for a quick walk around the block around 11 AM and then again at 2ish. They’re (obviously) loving it, and I adore how much it breaks up my work day, which is all of a sudden getting swamped.

Obviously this is not on one of our walks, but I wanted to share what the boys look like because I’m #oneofthosepeople

Evening Nature Walks.

In case you didn’t know this, the DC area is insanely beautiful nature-wise. Yes, the cherry blossoms are nice, but there are also many other amazing places that are away from the hustle and bustle. The towpath near Great Falls is my personal favorite. I usually park across the street from the Old Angler’s Inn (which I canNOT wait to re-open. Their Beer Garden is everything), and walk the towpath over to the Great Falls Lookout, stare at the falls for as long as it’s socially acceptable and walk back. It’s roughly four miles for the round-trip trek and I love love love it.

I hope you’re all doing your best to stay sane during this pandemic. Even though evidence is saying otherwise, I’m hoping against all that, we’re done with this soon. I know I’m going to appreciate going out to eat and to bars that much more.. and I will never take it for granted again. In the meantime, I’m trying to live it up in the best way I know how. One day this will be in the past and I so, so look forward to that day!
