Spread the love

I have to admit, when given the choice between Valentine’s Day and Mardi Gras, I always choose the latter. Perhaps it’s because I was chronically single for so long and Valentine’s Day brings back not-so-great memories. Maybe it’s because Mardi Gras is actually the best holiday ever and I’ve learned to love it.. Either way, my place is decked out in purple, green and yellow at the moment and I kiiiind of forgot Valentine’s Day is less than a week away.

ICYMI, there’s a pandemic going on and stuff and many people are opting to stay in. To avoid the monotony of just another night in, I thought I would share some fun ideas to give your day of love some extra spice. I hope you enjoy!

Make fondue

… and don’t let anyone tell you that it’s a fad that died in the 70s. Also don’t let anyone tell you that you need a fondue pot to make fondue. You don’t. Just a stovetop and maybe a hot plate for your coffee table and you’re good to go. THIS beer cheese fondue recipe looks uh-mazing and THIS chocolate fondue is making me drool.

Send Valentines!

This might come as a surprise to many, but those little cards that you exchanged in shoeboxes in grade school? Yeah, those are actually how previous generations celebrated and that’s it. Flowers and candy really became a thing much more recently. Anyway, Valentine’s Day is a great time to express your love and friendship and, with everyone being apart during Covid, it might be a great idea to send a little greeting to brighten someone’s day! I scored THIS box from Amazon for $15. If you’re wanting to be super cute with your Valentines, maybe even add a scrunchie or some little treat for your girls. This bag has 60 scrunchies in it and is only $10. Yup…

Watch a rom com

There is no better reason than Valentine’s Day to make your dude watch some sappy chick flick with you… Am I right? My personal favorites are How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days; Clueless; Ten Things I Hate About You; 50 First Dates; Sweet Home Alabama; Moonstruck; You’ve Got Mail (and White Christmas and The Holiday, but those are November-December movies in my house).

Make a Pinterest recipe that’s been on your board forever.

For me, it was homemade pop tarts and now I’m totally hooked. I made the dough (because I’m extra), but it would be even simpler to just buy pie crusts and have at it.

Dust off an old board game and have at it.

… and make some good snacks while you’re at it. My friends helped me compile a great list of board games HERE and they’re all fantastic.

Are you a Valentine’s Day lover or hater? I don’t feel like there is any in-between but maybe there is! Have a great week, all!
