Spread the love

I genuinely love the life I created for myself and thrive when things are a little nuts.

In fact, in my book, nothing is worse than being slightly bored and not having passion for what I’m up to.

This past spring, my professional world was turned upside down. I can’t go in to detail, but know that it took an emotional toll on me for a long time. My sense of purpose was compromised so I switched my focus to summer passion projects… and it was SO cathartic. I renovated my condo at the lake. I started a home-based (seasonal) cookie bakery and sold the goods at a farmers market. Finally, I pinch-hit managed one of our seasonal family restaurants.

Now that I’m back in the DC area, I’ve embraced my “word hard, play hard” life once again. I have officially launched Higdon Literacy Solutions and am working part time at a school I was at a few years ago. It’s wonderful being back in the classroom and I’ve gotten connected to some of the NoVA’s coolest kids. I’m also working as a contractor for one of the top Executive Function Coaching agencies in the DC area. Finally, I’ve dusted off my sales skills and am happily sharing a fantastic product with my friends in education.

To say that things have been busy would be an understatement. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are 13 hour days… And guess what? I’m loving it.

If I play my cards right, work is something that is temporary, and we often forget that. Life chapters are called chapters for a reason… Chapters always end.

Will I always be able to work like this? No. Life changes will come.

Will I always need to work like this? Also no. I’m working and investing toward an early retirement.

Work hard, friends. Busy is temporary… The payoff is permanent.
