What?  That’s not the MOST intriguing title you’ve ever seen?

Bear with me, friends.

I am not from D.C., so the pups and I are packing up the VW Sleigh and heading to Ohio for Christmas at the end of this week and I have SO MUCH to do.  Granted, it’s completely self-inflicted, but I like to make sure I live Christmas time up so I’m ready to transition in to January without being depressed.

1.Get the Christmas cards out.  For some reason that I am in no way understanding, I insisted on designing my own this year.  I teetered in between not doing cards at all to receiving several, loving them, and wanting to return the favor.  So, I spent my plane ride to and from Florida last weekend designing them, tweaking them, tweaking them again, and finally getting them printed at FedEx Office all for the shocking price of $100 for 30.  Holy.  Shoot.  (note to self: get these pups designed way earlier next year so I can order from Vista Print.).  My envelopes arrived yesterday, so I started addressing them and hope to have them out ASAP.  Sheesh.

2. Make cinnamon rolls.  This is an example of “cutesy Christmas things I don’t have to do but want to do.”  I saw the idea of making cinnamon rolls for friends to freeze and eat on Christmas morning on a blog and loooooved it.  So, I did a little trial run on Thanksgiving and feel confident to make them again this week!  My colleagues will get them on Thursday, so shhhh.

3. Host dinner.  If you’ve never live in D.C., you might not entirely understand how precious it is to have friends who live close by is.   While I have plenty of friends in the DMV (District, Maryland, Virginia), I really only see my fellow Marylanders during the week.  So, to celebrate Christmas, I am hosting dinner with them tomorrow night before we all go our separate ways for Christmas.  On the menu as of right now:

  • Bruschetta
  • Garlicky Bok Choi
  • Pisachio Pesto Farfalle
  • Chicken scallopini
  • Dessert still TBD, but probably cookies

4. Make all cookie dough for Christmas Eve.  Again, I did this to myself.  My mom is more than slightly type-A when it comes to kitchen cleanliness and doesn’t like us to make the Christmas Eve cookie dough in her kitchen, to which I often respond, “Then what is the point of having a kitchen?” but I digress.  A few years ago, when she threatened to buy store-bought dough (*cringe*), I said I’d make the dough, freeze it, and bring it.  My post for tomorrow is itemizing all of the cookies I make (it’s not a couple), in case you’re in the market for some new recipes this year.

5. Pack.  Sounds simple, right?  Packing myself and my dogs up makes me seriously wonder how more parents don’t end up in the looney bin.  Not only do I have to bring everything I need for myself, but also everything for them, everyone’s presents, and the dough (see above).  I already cleaned out my trunk, though, so I should be pretty easy… I hope.

That’s all for now!  Wish me luck!
