Single Girl Cooking

When you’re cooking for one, it is important to remember that life is more than prepackaged freezer meals.  I can remember life with roommates in which several people lived off of Smart Ones.  Now, I’m not knocking Smart Ones..  Sometimes they have merit..  And, well, their mac and cheese is delicious.  But, if you’re looking for a more homemade option, look no further than your CrockPot. This past weekend, I…

Winery Wednesday

Winery of the Week is Piedmont Vineyards and Winery. The oldest vineyard in Virginia, it is owned and operated by a German family, who is sweeter than sweet. Their Hunt Country Chardonnay tops my list–has a nice buttery, creamy undertone. Amazing. It is not, however, a “spend the day” at type winery. I would definitely recommend allotting a few hours, and moving on your merry way.

Host a Recipe Exchange!

For as much as I would have LOVED to take credit for this idea, Shay over at Shull Family inspired me to host a recipe exchange, and now I’m hooked.  Unlike Shay, I was busy stuffing my face that I failed to take any more pictures than the ones seen below.  Anyway, here’s how it worked:   I sent out the invites way ahead of time.. I actually really liked…

Cruciferous Breakfast

My former roommate and I came across this beauty while on one of our very frequent Trader Joe’s trips. Kale, brussels sprouts, broccoli, green cabbage and red cabbage… You had me at kale. You’ll need: 1/4 c chopped red union A big ol’ handul of Cruciferous Crunch 2 eggs  Feta cheese (a sprinkling) Toast (optional) OK, so first you brown the onion in oil or butter and throw in the…

When I Lived In Europe:

These posts are more than slightly embarrassing.  My, how I’ve changed in nine years.  And, I totally forgot how sick I was when I had first gotten over there!  I’m happy to report that overall, it was one of the best experiences of my life, even though it had a rough start. Reading guide: AMDG=a “household” (the Franciscan University version of a frat); FUS=Franciscan University of Steubenville   I’m in…

Too Good to Not Share

These cookies have been my ultimate go-to..  I can’t get enough of them. Head over to The Baker Upstairs for the best recipe ever… Wait for it: Brown Butter Sea Salt Chocolate Chip Cookies.  Stopppp.  I use dark chocolate chips.  Enjoy!

Stone Tower

You guys. I know Virginia is beautiful, but I had NO idea that anything this side of the Atlantic could be THIS beautiful.  I’m obsessed.  Stone Tower Winery is owned by the same people who own Belfort Furniture, so to that the interior design is gorgeous would be an understatement.  And the scenery!  I died.  Gorgeous. Wine reviews?  All really impressive, but the Wild Boar Brut Cuvee was an unexpected favorite…

When I Lived in Austria: Vienna

Here’s another reminiscing blog post.. Here’s what I wrote when I visited Vienna as a carefree 20-year old, and where 7:30 was an unbearable hour and words like, “nast” were everyday jargon…  Awww… Ohmygosh, I seriously think I have witnessed the most AMAZING place on earth. Vienna, Austria is GORGEOUS! We boarded the busses at 7:30 a.m. yesterday (gag) to begin the 2.5 hour excurstion to Austria’s capital city. On…

Blog Archive: When I Lived in Austria

I’m working on deleting some old blogs because, well, who needs to hear about 19-year-old me’s drama and inner rantings?  I came across this little gem, which speaks volumes about my life when I lived in a gorgeous 13th Century Carthusian Monastery in the foothills of the Austrian Alps with some of my favorite people.  It still feels like a dream…   Alright, I’m finally awake, and able to write…

Spinach Salad

Few things make me happier than discovering a new bit of culinary genius.  On a recent trip to New York, I visited the Chelsea Market for the first time.  Note that I have been to New York more times than I can count (it’s only 3.5 hours away from DC, and I have several friends who live there), and I HAD NEVER BEEN TO THE CHELSEA MARKET.  #notOK.  Anywho, at the…
