Blog archive from Christmastime 2014…

No, the title is not a type-o. On Friday, the DC area of Communion and Liberation (CL) came together for our annual Christmas soiree…  When the area responsible asked me to help coordinate, I gladly jumped on board..  OK, so it totally stressed me out, but, ya know, it was well worth it.  A good time was had by all, myself included.

What is CL, you ask?  It’s an eccelesial movement within the Catholic Church, founded by Father Luigi Giussani in Italy in the 1950s.  I was vehemently opposed to movements for yearssss, but alas, once I figured out that it’s not a cult, here I am. Hook.  Line.  Sinker.  Never happier.

So, to help explain some of the Christmas decor, here is a photo of Father Giussani and an explanation of the illustration HERE.

Below is the decor.  Menu included Chick Fil A nuggets and Subway 6′ subs (which the poor fast food-deprived Italian kids adored)… We also recruited the Italians to potluck some more food.  When Italians are involved, always make them cook.  You’ll never be sorry.

Center pieces were wine bottles + Mod Podge + glitter; a plastic charger from Hobby Lobby ($1 a pop, but I’ve had these babies for years); tinsel on clearance from Michaels, and a fabric poinsettia from Michaels ($1 each, last year).

Oh, and I finally invested in a fabric steamer. It seriously might be my favorite possession ever.  I’m like, actually not kidding.  It worked so well on the polyester table cloths.  Now if only I could find a way to remove red wine stains..  #italianproblems

A few thoughts about catering during the holidays:

1) It’s a pain in the ass

2) Always order from a restaurant that has a parking lot (i.e. downtown Silver Spring=horrible idea, though I do have to say that the manager carried the nuggets to my car. Talk about amazing service!)

3) If there’s even the tiniest of waits, order a peppermint milkshake.  Odds are it’ll be on the house because, well, they’re making you wait AND you just spent a few hundred dollars at their establishment.  I love Chick Fil A.  So much.

4) Leave LOTS of time.  A ton.  If you think it’ll be too much time and the food might be cold, risk cold food.

I am most thankful for this fun and freakishly good-looking community.  Thanks for a great time!!
