Six Must-Do’s Around the DC Area This Fall

I know we’re already in the throws of fall, but here in DC, things move a lil’ slow and we tend to not really get a winter until January. Heck, we never even got a winter last year, so maybe we’ll get lucky again. … Although, I must admit that I *kind* of like the coziness of a snowy day with coffee, baking, and forced resting.. Those days are kind…

A Wintery Wine Outing

It’s no secret that I adore the Virginia wineries. To me, nothing is more perfect that a workout class in the morning (OTF is my personal favorite), followed by vegging out in the Old Dominion, sipping wine while looking at gorgeous scenery. If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that I’ve been to dozens of Virginia wineries and often report back on my favorites. So, I (wrongfully)…

Grey Ghost Winery

Few things I enjoy more than an afternoon in God’s country, doing a wine tasting and enjoying the beautiful scenery.  A few months ago, we ventured out to a winery I had heard of several times-Grey Ghost.  Even though I found it fun to try to convince my fellow wine tasters that it was named that because of a frequent apparition, it is in fact because of a nickname Abraham…

Bull Run and The Winery at Bull Run

To say that last weekend was as perfect as it comes would be an understatement.  Everything from the chill Thanksgiving morning, complete with the Macy’s Parade, cinnamon rolls and cozy blankets to shopping the sales on Friday and Saturday was amazing.  I am still basking in the perfection of this time off with my love. On Sunday, Jim and I had intentions of doing a hike in the Shenandoah, but…

White Oak Canyon

[wysija_form id=”1″] A slightly spur-of-the-moment decision to spend Saturday of Memorial Day weekend out in the Shenandoah did not disappoint.  There was a large change of rain, so we went out there anyway, hoping for the best.  While it was more than a little humid, the rain held off, and the temperature was perfect. We left around 11 AM on Saturday.  Under normal circumstances, I would recommend getting out there…

DuCard Winery

[wysija_form id=”1″] Some days are better than others, and some days are downright fantastic.  Last Saturday, I ventured out to the Shenandoah with four of my favorite people for a hike and wine.  I never thought of myself as a “nature person,” mainly because I hate bugs and loathe being dirty.  Oh, and I don’t like being hot either.  But, since I moved to the D.C. area, I have learned…

Cobbler Mountain

Once upon a time, I was a wine club member at Cobbler Mountain.  It was a great little perk, which included free wine tastings, access to the club room, all at the small price of a dozen bottles of wine.  Those days are over.  When I went to Cobbler Mountain a few weeks ago, I was beyond bummed to learn that they are phasing out their wine, and focusing on…

Chryalis Winery

This weekend’s insanely awesome weather kept me outside pretty much all day, and I ventured to the Virginia mountains with some friends (more on that coming soon!).  This made me realize, however, how much of a slacker I’ve been with posting about local vineyards, which, this is no secret, is one of my all-time favorite things to do on a pretty weekend afternoon. We went to Chryalis Winery last fall,…

Winery Wednesday: Tarara

This is (obviously) a blog archive from a few years ago. Enjoy!!   This past weekend was Tax Free Weekend here in Virginia.. So, of course, I had to completely screw up my overly-strict budget and take advantage of clothes shopping without having to give Uncle Sam a cut. A friend and I actually got up at a decent hour on Sunday morning to travel out to the Leesburg Premium…

Winery of the Week: Sunset Hills

Impulsive winery trips are sometimes the best. Have I mentioned how much I looove Virginia wineries? I think I might have…. 😉 Although it sounds like a retirement facility, Sunset Hills Vineyard in Loudon County, VA has been named Virginia’s favorite winery for 2011… And HOW was this my first visit, you ask? I don’t know either. The atmosphere is gorgeous–the tasting room is an 1870 barn that was completely refurbished by…
