Recipe: Corny Appetizers

A wise person once told me that a good cook is never without friends. I have found this to be true, especially when it comes to appetizers. These babies, which I will add to my recipes tab for your future reference, are an original of mine and have always been a hit when I’ve made them. My sister even texted me for the recipe last weekend and made them all…

Ugly Cookies

Blog archive!  Enjoy!   Every so often a conceited baker needs a little humility in her life. That happened to me last night. I am going to let you in to a little secret. As if my last post didn’t entirely make you think that I’m a Type A freak, allow me to confirm any suspicions with today’s post. I have a little ritual that happens just about every day…

Houston Flea

I’m heading to Houston tonight for a quick trip to see Miss Lindsay, a dear friend from college..  A lot has changed since this post.. Anyway, Houston has become my home away from home, and I’m looking forward to another good time, that will definitely be more low key than previous trips…   OK, so as I mentioned before, I did something unique and different during my trip to Houston.…

Winery Wednesday: Tarara

This is (obviously) a blog archive from a few years ago. Enjoy!!   This past weekend was Tax Free Weekend here in Virginia.. So, of course, I had to completely screw up my overly-strict budget and take advantage of clothes shopping without having to give Uncle Sam a cut. A friend and I actually got up at a decent hour on Sunday morning to travel out to the Leesburg Premium…

DC Restaurant Recommendations: Mad Fox

Do you ever get to an epiphany and wonder where a certain thing has been all your life? For example, I have known about Oreos and cookie dough for the past 25 years, but only in the past few months have fellow bloggers taught me to combine the two.. And I wonder, where have they been my whole life? I had a similar sentiment when a friend introduced me to Mad…

Winery of the Week: Sunset Hills

Impulsive winery trips are sometimes the best. Have I mentioned how much I looove Virginia wineries? I think I might have…. 😉 Although it sounds like a retirement facility, Sunset Hills Vineyard in Loudon County, VA has been named Virginia’s favorite winery for 2011… And HOW was this my first visit, you ask? I don’t know either. The atmosphere is gorgeous–the tasting room is an 1870 barn that was completely refurbished by…

Lent

Here we go!!!  I came across this post from Lent three years ago, and laughed out loud..  I totally forgot about this conversation!   I hate when Lent (and therefore Easter) start this early.  Just when I’m starting to slack off on my new year’s resolutions, it’s time to take up new ones, but this time guilt is attached to them.   8-year-old charge (that’s nanny lingo for “kid I…

Laissez les bons temps rouler!!!

It’s almost Mardi Gras!!! One of the aspects I both love and hate about where I went to college is the fact that people came from (and went) ALL over the country, and in some cases, the world. We had a large group from Louisiana, which is where I get my slight obsession for all things Mardi Gras from. So, I am going to Mardi Gras dinner at some friends’…

Winery Wednesday: North Gate Winery

North Gate Winery not only has the most inexpensive yet a-mazing wine tasting I’ve ever had, they also have an optional TRUFFLE pairing. Yum! Wine+Chocolate=Yes please. I recommend the Cabernet Franc as well as the Viogner–both exquisitely done. North Gate also makes an apple wine, which I’m typically not a fan of, but they definitely do it well, to put a little variety into the mix. North Gate is also absolutely…

I LOVE GLUTEN!!!

I genuinely, sincerely, whole-heartedly don’t know what I would do if I ever got a diagnosis for celiac disease. No, I take that back.  I know what I would do.   I would starve. My three anti-drugs are: drinking beer, eating carbs and baking carb-loaded things…  Sometimes all at once.   I briefly considered religious life when someone told me that there is an order of nuns in Europe that…
